Know what you\’re getting in to
Trust
At The Stiz Recording Studio of NJ our clients have grown to trust our skills, abilities, quality and communication. Our owner/engineer Mike Hemberger aka: Jive The Universal is a man of many talents and a man of integrity, expect him to be honest, efficient, and very easy to work with.
Efficiency
Our engineer/producer is very experienced in all aspects of the studio, particularly with speed and workflow within Pro Tools. The understanding of a typical session structure and workflow is a crucial part of getting all of the work complete within the amount of time needed.
We will never purposely make your session take any longer than it needs to.
Advice and Suggestions
During a typical session, we try to keep an open level of communication. We may offer suggestions or ideas to spark creativity and enhance the performance and production. We greatly understand the dynamics and sensitivity of the working relationship between artists, producers and engineers.
You will not be pressured or enticed to follow through with any of the ideas offered, as they are merely suggestions.
Ultimately, as the artist, you will have the final say.
Preparation
Always be as well prepared as possible to ensure your session flows properly. Make sure you leave enough travel time to get to the studio on time. Go here for a map and directions. Don\’t arrive early expecting us to get any work done before your session starts.
Things to remember:
- Beats – whether on cd, thumb/flash drive, emailed or uploaded ahead of time
- Lyrics – written down, printed out, on your smart phone – just bring them, even as a backup
- Instruments – make sure you bring your guitars, basses, etc. . . obviously
- Accessories – strings, straps, tuners, wires, cables, etc.
- Water – or whatever you drink. We have a mini-fridge in the studio, but it\’s not guaranteed to have anything in it
- Drives – flash drive, thumb drive, or anything else, if you intend to do any file swapping
Rehearsal
Make sure you know your parts or your lyrics! Don\’t waste time writing your music or lyrics here unless you are looking for a collaborative effort. This may seem obvious, but you\’d be amazed how the intensity and crunch time of a recording studio session makes people freeze up.
Payment
Payment for the amount of hours booked is expected upon arrival or at the end of the session. Any time over the scheduled session is expected to be paid for after the session on the same day.
Your Finished Song Files
A reasonable amount of cd\’s will be burned for the artist(s) at the end of the each session, if needed. Files can also be uploaded to your thumb drive, flash drive or swapped to your laptop. Files are usually Wave, but can be Aiff or Mp3 upon request.
After your project is complete, we may or may not store your session files on our system or backup drives. If you require permanent storage for your files, it\’s best to bring an external hard drive and allow time at the end of your session for uploading.
