I saw saw my man Andrew Kim post this video on Facebook and I had to share it.
Wax\’s lyrics in this joint really spoke truth to my heart. I figured I would post this to help some of yall get a clear picture of the sacrifices involved in being a true artist. This is not to discourage any of you, but just to open your eyes a bit. Pay close attention to the 2nd verse.
What am I in this for?
Don\’t do this (music/art) for other people. Don\’t make music with a goal of ______. I left that blank for you to ponder over. The blank could be anything. Do you do this for money? Fame? Sex? Power? Odds are you don\’t have excess of any of those things at the moment. Odds are also that if you did get any of those things in excess, that it wouldn\’t satisfy you anyway. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is when your music becomes art. This is when your music becomes true to you.
This is when your music becomes art. This is when your music becomes true to you.
Serious, seriously
As a final note, I\’d encourage all of you to jump ahead to the truth in your music and why you make it. Skip the initial reasons you got into it. It\’s not about those things, and it can\’t sustain your creativity or motivation. Stay true. Stay authentic. We don\’t want to see you trying to be someone else. We want to know you. You have a lot to offer.
